CLAIRE

I am an artist, grower and researcher interested in commoning, care and the power of gardening as a collective and civic act.

Increasing my focus is on food  - seed, soils, skills and sovereignty - and the role of food in nature recovery.

I moved to Whiteway with my family just over ten years ago.

I started BW in 2017 after meeting Jude at Bath City Farm. BW is founded on a decade long conversation between us  -critiquing the limitations of traditional horticulture, learning about biodiverse spaces, discussing the capacity of urban spaces for wildness and connecting with as many like minded people as humanly possible.

Blooming Whiteway is not a funded role - although occasibaly we might get paid a bit for speaking at events - and our paid roles do overlap where we have the opportunity to collaborate.

In the early days we recived funding for various actities - but quickly realised the generosity of plants and the freedom of a low/no budget approach.

BW activities grow in the cracks between paid part-time employment at Bath Spa University and family responsibilities.

My artist webiste is clod.earth

I've grown up around planty and outdoorsy people - from green fingered grandparents and family members to friends with plant nurseries.

I’ve always felt more at home outside than inside - with my hands in the soil or with plants.

I'm especially interested in growing as a way to connect and share knowledge with people about food and nature.
